Keeping in mind the forthcoming festive period and the evil effect of illegal practice of liquor, the Excise branch under the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Darrang district in Assam has stepped up operations against the gangs of spurious country liquor in various places of the district.

In a joint excise raid carried out on Wednesday at Gerimeri, Baghpori, Prafulla Nagar, Mowamari and Areng under Mangaldoi circle and Bhuktabari, Lothapara and Bijulibari under Sipajhar circle, the Excise staff have seized and destroyed about 1000 litres of ‘fermented wash’ and 200 litres of illicit liquor.

Two persons were also arrested along with about 100 litres of illicit liquor.

Deputy Superintendent of Excise, Sukla Goswami while informing this to Northeast Now about their series of actions on Thursday has hinted similar kinds of raids on regular basis in days to come.

In addition to operations against the illicit country liquor, the in charge Excise Superintendent also assured intensifying operations against the illegal sale , storage and transportation of IMFL.

He offered thanks to Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kr Barman and Additional Deputy Commissioner in charge of Excise, Pankaj Chakravarty for their constant support and supervision.
