Ahead of the celebration of the Independence day, the district administration of Assam’s Darrang has intensified drives against spurious country liquor.

In one such successful drive, a team of Darrang Excise department assisted by police and led by Surajit Borah, additional deputy commissioner in charge of Excise on Monday raided several areas under Sipajhar Police Station.

Raids were conducted in places like Narikoli, Hetemtola, Goroimara and Boniapara.

In the day long operation, the team destroyed more than 200 litres of spurious country liquor besides many tools used in this illegal trade.

However, no one could be arrested.

Meanwhile talking to the Northeast Now on Tuesday, ADC Borah said, “Deputy Commissioner Dilip Kumar Borah has taken the issue very seriously and under his strict instructions the drives will be continued in coming days too and persons involved will be punished as per law.”
