Doomdooma: Residents of Rupai Siding under Doomdooma Revenue Circle in Assam’s Tinsukia district have demanded proper maintenance and beautification of Shahid Bedi and the statue of music maestro Bhupen Hazarika.

The statue was inaugurated in October last year by the All Assam Studentsโ€™ Union (AASU), Doomdooma Regional Committee, to mark the birth centenary of Bhupen Hazarika.

The Shahid Bedi, dedicated to martyrs, and the statue of Hazarika were set up as symbols of remembrance and cultural importance.

โ€œThese are ideals for our new generations. They can learn from here and keep Assamโ€™s pride and history safe,โ€ said a concerned resident.

โ€œBhupen Da was not just an artist, he was the voice of Assamโ€™s soul. Such a place deserves dignity and care,โ€ another resident remarked.

Residents have appealed to authorities and AASU members to take steps for maintenance, including proper lighting, regular cleaning, plantation, and basic infrastructure.

โ€œIf preserved well, this site can inspire youth and stand as a beacon of Assamโ€™s rich legacy,โ€ a local youth added.
