Doomdooma: The riverbank along the Doomdooma River, locally known as the Kaliapani River, in the Kaliapani area of Doomdooma town in Tinsukia district is being considered for measures to address recurring erosion and explore future beautification, Doomdooma MLA Rupesh Gowala said on Saturday.

Gowala inspected the riverside stretch to assess the erosion problem and examine the potential for developing the area as a public space.

โ€œToday, I inspected the area near the river in Kaliapani under Doomdooma town to review measures to prevent the erosion that occurs here from time to time, as well as the possibilities of beautifying the site in the future,โ€ he said.

The riverbank has experienced periodic erosion, prompting concerns over its protection. At the same time, the MLAโ€™s proposal to explore beautification could potentially combine erosion-control measures with the development of a recreational space for local residents.

Gowala expressed hope that the Kaliapani riverside would eventually be developed into an attractive destination for people in the Doomdooma constituency.

The inspection focused on both the immediate need to strengthen the riverbank and the longer-term possibility of improving the riverside area. If implemented, the proposed measures could provide a public-use space while also addressing concerns related to erosion and riverbank protection.

The initiative has also renewed attention on the potential of the Doomdooma River as a local environmental and recreational asset, with erosion management and future development being considered alongside the preservation of the riverside landscape.
