District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) of Dhemaji in Assam on Monday launched a fortnight-long ‘Legal Awareness Campaign’ at Jonai.

It is largely participated by government officials, police, Para Legal Volunteer (PLV)s working at different levels.

The meeting was chaired by Jonai block development officer Sailen Chutiya.

He focused on various legal aspects implicated to panchayat and rural development schemes such as Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) and Prime Minister Awash Yojana (PMAY), 14th Finance Commission programmes and pension schemes etc.

Addressing the meeting at Jonai BDO’s office conference hall, Dhemaji DLSA secretary Md N A Laskar said the guidelines of the developmental schemes were framed with certain legal provisions and it aims welfare of the common people.

He urged the panchayat officials to ensure strict adherence of the guidelines of the scheme and maintain closer coordination with the PLVs for during implementation.

“The implementing agency must not violate the legitimate norms in implementing schemes and ensure that genuine beneficiaries are not deprived from their needs”, said Laskar, while adding that public complaint on official misconduct may invite legal action.

The panchayat secretaries and junior engineers concerned explained the guidelines of the schemes implemented by panchayat and rural development department in the block.

The ongoing awareness campaign by DLSA also includes several issues such as Right to Education act, 2009, Training on Legal Services, Assam Employees Parental Responsibility Norms for Accountability Monitoring (Pranam) Act, 2007, NALSA (Legal Service to Senior Citizens) Schemes-2016, Jial visit, Children Home visit and observance of Senior Citizens Day with reference to legal aspects pertaining to the issues/schemes.

DLSA secretary is making official communication with administrative officials of the district, Police and other concerned to communicate scheduled meetings.

He also invited heads of the concerning departments, panchayat officials, college principals and learned advocates as resource persons to participate the awareness meeting and lay their presentation on specific subject/topics.

The programme is being organized in view of the calendar activities of Assam State Legal Service Authority scheduled to conduct this year.

The DLSA has fixed the next meetings at different locations of Dhemaji, Sissiborgaon and MSTD (Jonai) blocks under the district.

The two-week long programme will come to end on August 19 next.
