Guwahati: A sudden rise in the water level of the Diphu River has triggered flash flooding in several parts of Diphu town in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district, inundating residential areas, roads and public spaces.
The river is flowing above the danger level following a rapid increase in its water level, affecting several low-lying parts of the town. Floodwaters have entered houses and disrupted movement and daily activities.
Shivbari, Panbari, Dharamnala, Pirbi Market and the Diphu Government Boys’ field are among the affected areas. Several residential properties have reportedly been waterlogged, while roads in the localities remain submerged.
Flooding has also disrupted commercial activity, particularly around Pirbi Market, where waterlogging has affected normal business operations.
Residents said the water level rose rapidly, leaving little time for people in low-lying areas to respond. They expressed concern over further inundation if the river continues to remain above the danger level.
Local authorities are monitoring the situation as floodwaters continue to affect parts of Diphu town.
