A public meeting to mobilize the people in opposing the granting of ST (H) status to Bodos living in the hill districts of Assam was organized by Diphu district committee of Karbi Students Association (KSA) – Simon Rongphar faction at KSA central committee office in Diphu on Thursday.

In the meeting, ex-KSA vice president, Selawar Bey while opposing the move said, “There is no mention in the constitution that one community can enjoy dual facility. We know the Central government is going to take the bill on Clause 8 of Bodo accord for granting of ST (H) status to Bodos living in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao. But we appealed to the Central government to scrape the bill for the interest of the hill people of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao.”

Bey blamed the BJP led Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council under the chief executive member of Tuliram Ronghang for depriving the people as all contract works and other facilities went to people from outside.

KSA adviser, Laichan Engleng said KAAC has surrendered its powers to State government.

Earlier, separate memorandums to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and CEM, KAAC, Tuliram Ronghang were submitted to Deputy Commissioner of Karbi Anglong urging the Central Government for withdrawal of the bill.

KSA, central committee president Simeon Rongphar and Diphu district committee president Puron Bey were also present at the meeting.
