Amidst Assam Police continuing its operations against land brokers across the state, Digboi Police on Saturday evening arrested a Gaonburha for his involvement in land broking activities.
The arrested Gaonburha has been identified as Krishna Mahato of Borbil village under Digboi police station in Tinsukia district.

Confirming the development, the sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) of Margherita, Partha Pratim Das said the Gaonbura was apprehended on Saturday evening on various charges based on complaints involving his indulgence in land sale cases, forgery and others.

“We would investigate the matter considering all pros and cons of the allegations and would produce the accused before the court on Monday with the findings whatsoever,” the official informed.

A case (No 314/21) has been registered in Digboi police station under sections 468/471/406/323/120(B) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
It is pertinent to add that several complaints were lodged over a period of time against the said village headman for his alleged involvement in the land sale and purchase proceedings even resorting to unfair and aggressive approaches.
This is the maiden case of arrest of land brokers in Digboi.
It is expected that the police in its investigation would go into the depth of the case and connect all dots to crack on all those connected with the Gaonburha in land dealing cases.
Assam Police has apprehended more than 500 land brokers from several districts of the state from September 21 midnight, including 52 in Kamrup (R) and 17 in Dibrugarh district while 5 were arrested in Tinsukia district.
Tinsukia has recorded 6 cases while 3 cases have been recorded in Sadiya.
