The 19th convocation of Dibrugarh University was held in virtual mode for the first time on Sunday in view of the prevailing situation due to the rise in Covid-19.
On behalf of the governor of Assam and chancellor of Dibrugarh University Jagadish Mukhi, the vice chancellor in-charge Lilakanta Nath conferred the degrees to the eligible candidates in absentia in a simple function held in presence of the deans of the university.
The programme was live streamed through the website – www.dibru.ac.in – on Sunday
The director of Indian Institute of Information Technology (IITG) Guwahati Gautam Barua delivered the convocation address in the virtual mode as the chief guest.

Prominent litterateur Padmashree Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi was conferred the prestigious Doctor of Literature (D Litt) honorary degree for his contribution as a litterateur, critic, academician and social reformer.
The Dibrugarh University conferred the degrees in absentia to the eligible candidates who qualified from the university during the period from November 1, 2018 to November 30, 2019.
The university also conferred PhD degrees on candidates who qualified during the period from November 1, 2018 to October 10, 2020.
The candidates will be able to collect their certificates with effect from May 10 this year from the Dibrugarh University and from their respective colleges.
The university sincerely regrets the limitation compelled by the present situation and appeals cooperation from all concerned.
