Police arrested Anuradha Baruah and Indrajit Handique for allegedly torturing a 13-year-old ‘adopted’ child at their residence on the Dibrugarh university campus.

The couple had reportedly adopted the minor boy from Bogibeel, Nahoroni area of Dibrugarh.

Dibrugarh police has registered a case (no 2407/21) under section 344,323, 294,506 of the IPC and r/w 14 of Child Labour Act.

“We have registered a case at Dibrugarh police station and started investigation. Both the husband and wife were detained for questioning,” ASP (HQ) Bitul Chetia said.

“We are not sure whether they legally adopted the minor child. Further investigation will clear the case,” he said.
