Dibrugarh: A local BJP leader from Upper Assam‘s Dibrugarh has been missing from his home for nearly ten days, family sources said.

Likhan Baruah, the former president of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) in the Dibrugarh district, has been missing from his Rohmoria residence under the Lahowal constituency, vanished from his home approximately ten days ago.

There are growing suspicions that he may have joined the proscribed rebel outfit, ULFA-I.

Police and security forces have launched an investigation and search operation to locate him, but they have not confirmed any affiliation with ULFA-I.

Before his disappearance, Baruah reportedly left a four-page letter for his mother.

Baruah contested the 2021 Assam Assembly elections from the Lahowal constituency under the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) ticket but lost. He later joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Dibrugarh Superintendent of Police Rakesh Reddy said, “We have received a complaint regarding his disappearance and initiated our investigation. At this preliminary stage, we cannot provide any definitive information.”
