Dhubri headmaster arrested

Guwahati: Authorities in Assam’s Dhubri district have arrested the headmaster of a government lower primary school after a woman accused him of sexually assaulting her and forcing her into an illicit relationship, police said.

The arrested headmaster, Shahjahan Hussain Sheikh, is a resident of Kachuwar Khas in Dhubri.

He was posted at 333 Sohrab Char Lower Primary School at the time of the alleged incident.

Police said the woman accused Sheikh of sexually exploiting her and compelling her to maintain an illicit relationship near the school.

She subsequently approached the police and filed a First Information Report (FIR) outlining the allegations.

After receiving the complaint, police registered Case No. 253/2026 at the A.M. Co Road Bazar Town Police Out Post in Dhubri under the applicable legal provisions and later arrested Sheikh.

The accused was produced before the Dhubri District Court on Thursday.

A police official said the case was registered on the basis of the victim’s statement and that a detailed investigation is in progress to ensure appropriate legal action.
