The administration of Assam’s Dhubri district has taken a number of initiatives and in order to maintaining physical distancing and essential services.

Earlier on Monday and Tuesday, the Dhubri market registered record footfall and sales as people went on a shopping spree of essentials ahead of the lockdown that began Tuesday evening.

Despite several appeals from the district administration that the shops of grocery and other essential commodities including medicines will be available during the lockdown period, people and retailers started pouring in the market.

Meanwhile, following reports of price rise of essential commodities in local market, the Dhubri district administration is on strict vigil across the market.

Accordingly a team led by Bipin Kr Chakraborty, deputy director of Food & Civil Supply conducted surprise visit to the wholesale markets of onion and potato and took stock of the situation.

The department has also fixed the rate of onion and potato and directed to sale the potato at Rs 14 per kilograms and onion at Rs 20 per kilograms otherwise lawful action would be taken against the traders found guilty.
