A demand was made to declare North Kamrup as a district and supporting their demands, the delegates of Rangiya Zila Karmachari Parishad submitted a memorandum on Sunday to Assam irrigation minister and local MLA Bhabesh Kalita.

Through the memorandum, the delegates urged the MLA for early declaration of North Kamrup as a district with Rangiya as its headquarters.

The delegates met the minister at the PWD Inspection Bungalow in Rangiya and apprised him of their prayer.

It may be mentioned here people have been demanding to declare North Kamrup as a separate district for many years now.

The memorandum further boasted of the growing significance of Rangiya, housed with railway division, Army headquarters, number of important government offices with nearly two lakh population.

The body urged the Assam government for the early fulfilment of its perennial demand for the sake of people of greater Rangiya.
