A decision on closing down hotels and educational institutes in Guwahati city, Assam’s capital city, will be taken if the daily caseload in the city touches 1000-mark.
This was informed by Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the Kamrup-Metro district administration has been authorised to take a decision on closing down educational institutes and hotels if the daily caseload of the city touches 1000-mark.
“In case the daily case rate in Guwahati Metro touches 1000, the district administration has been authorized to take a decision to close down educational institutions and hotels,” said Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
“All including – Schools, colleges and Universities will be closed. Hostels would be directed to vacate,” added Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Himanta Biswa Sarma added that a decision on holding of HSLC, HSSLC and other examinations, scheduled to be held next month, would be taken after reviewing COVID-19 situation post May 2.
“If school, colleges and universities get closed, how can the examinations be conducted. It will definitely get postponed. But a decision will be taken only after May 2,” said Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The Assam Health Minister further informed that a 7-day home quarantine has been made compulsory for all people travelling into Assam.
“For all people traveling to Assam a 7-day home quarantine is being mandatory, in addition to the testing,” said Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Himanta Biswa Sarma further informed that the Assam Government has ramped up COVID-19 testing facilities.

“We are ramping up COVID-19 testing facilities by creating a screening centre in every ward of Guwahati City so that people can get access to RT-PCR or Rapid Antigen test without any hassle,” added Himanta Biswa Sarma.
