Darrang Police arrested another drug peddler from Mangaldai and seized a consignment of brown sugar from his possession.

The operation was carried out on Thursday evening.

The arrested drug peddler has been identified as Jalaluddin Seikh, son of late Madhu Miya.

“Based on inputs and instruction of SP, Sushanta Biswa Sarma, an operation was launched in Mowamari area under Mangaldai police station last evening and a 35-year-old drug peddler, namely Jalaluddin Seikh, son of late Madhu Miya has been nabbed” said police.

“We seized four vials containing brown sugar along with a cash amount of Rs 1800 and a mobile phone from his possession,” police added.

The police have registered a case in connection with the seizure.

“Further investigations are on,” police said.

This is the second successful operation, carried out by Darrang Police against the illegal drugs racket within 24 hours.

Earlier on Wednesday night, one drug peddler was arrested from Dhula area along with a consignment of heroin.

Three robbers have been nabbed along with two country-made pistols, five rounds of live ammunition and stolen ornaments worth several thousands of rupees from Shyampur area of the district on Thursday.

The operation was carried out following an incident of robbery in the house of a local garment trader on Tuesday night.
