Darrang Police on Sunday made another breakthrough in their ongoing crackdown on illegal drugs racket.

During an operation, carried out on the basis of secret inputs, a police team from Dhula police station of Darrang district was able to apprehend one drug peddler.

The drug peddler has been identified as 23-year-old Rahul Amin, a resident of Khataniapara village under Dhula police station.

The police team seized a consignment of brown sugar, weighing 62 gms from the possession of Rahul Amin.

It is estimated that the market value of the banned drugs would be more than Rs 30,000, the officer-in-charge of Dhula police station, Kalyan Borah told Northeast Now.

A case has been registered at Dhula police station in connection with the seizure.

Investigations are still on.

Earlier, on May 20 evening, Darrang Police arrested a drug peddler from Mangaldai and seized a consignment of brown sugar from his possession.

The arrested drug peddler was identified as Jalaluddin Seikh, son of late Madhu Miya.

The drug peddler was nabbed during an operation launched in Mowamari area under Mangaldai police station on May 20 evening.

Police said they seized four vials containing brown sugar along with a cash amount of Rs 1,800 and a mobile phone from his possession.

On May 19 night, a police team led by deputy superintendent of police (headquarters), Mamoni Hazarika, nabbed one drugs peddler namely Samad Ali (32), son of Suruj Ali of Ondolajhar village under Dhula police station.

A consignment of heroin in seven separate vials and a sizeable quantity of cannabis (ganja) were recovered from the possession of the arrested person.
