In the wake of surging fresh positive cases of Covid19, the Darrang district health department is facing a shortage of medical goods needed for the frontline health workers to combat the situation.

According to the sources in the store of drugs under the health department at Mangaldai, there was no stock of RAT kits, sanitisers, triple-layered face masks and disposable hand gloves till Tuesday.

Currently, the district has a stock of 2800 nos of VTM (Viral Transport Medium) kit for RT-PCR tests, 622 nos of PPE kits, 680 nos of N95 masks and only one hundred pieces of disposable caps among others.

“As of now, the stock of RAT kit is nil. We are in Guwahati to collect a fresh consignment of ten thousand kits of RAT,” said Samiran Sarma, the drug store manager, NHM, Darrang while talking to North East Now over the phone on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the district in a single day on Monday recorded 32 fresh positive cases of Covid19, taking the tally of active cases to 94.

“Among the active cases, twelve are undergoing treatment in the Covid19 isolation centre, set up by the district health department, three others are hospitalized in Guwahati, seventy-seven are in home isolation while the remaining two are untraced,” said Nayana Parashar, district programme manager, NHM, Darrang.

Dr Hemanta Kumar Deka, a young medical practitioner in the ENT department of the Mangaldai Civil Hospital, is also among the active Covid patients.

Significantly, Dr Deka had taken the second dose of Covid19 vaccine nearly two months back.
