The vaccination drive for Covid19 with the vaccine, Covishield, will be launched in the Dima Hasao district on January 16, 2021 along with the rest of the country.

A media sensitisation on Covid19 vaccination was organised on Wednesday at the office chamber of the additional chief medical and health officer of the health department at Haflong.

During the sensitization programme, the reporters were told that two vaccination sites have been selected by the state government in Dima Hasao.

The vaccination sites are Haflong Civil Hospital and Umrangso Civil Health Centre (CHC).

The vaccination drive will be carried out phase-wise.

The first phase of the vaccination will be started with the healthcare workers and employees of Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) like Anganwadi workers, supervisors, and Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs).

The vaccine will be administered in the upper arm.

Two doses of the vaccine, 0.5 ml each, will be administered (intramuscular) in a gap of minimum of 28 days.

The reporters were told that the vaccine is “safe and effective”.

The immunity will start developing after 14 days of the 2nd dose.

“Even after vaccination, all protocols of Covid19 should be maintained like wearing of mask, frequent hand-washing and physical distancing of 6 feet,” the health officials said.
