Assam has registered 2,284 new COVID19 positive cases, taking the state’s overall tally to 50,445.

Confirming the news, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet on Wednesday night said the new cases have been detected out of 59,162 COVID19 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.

The health minister said, “Glad that our positivity rate is just 3.86%!”

Sarma informed that of the new positive cases, Kamrup Metro has reported 362 cases, Dibrugarh has reported 177 cases, 157 cases have been detected in Nagaon and 123 new cases have been reported from Kamrup Rural district.

Meanwhile, 1,471 patients, who were earlier infected by COVID19, have been discharged from various hospitals or Covid Care Centres across Assam on Wednesday after they tested negative for the virus.

“1471 patients have been discharged today. So many recovered patients in a day is indeed a result of great efforts by our medical teams,” health minister said in another tweet.

With the release of these patients, the total number of patients discharged in Assam stands at 35,892.

Assam currently has 14,429 while the deadly disease has claimed the lives of 121 positive patients.

Six more positive patients died of COVID19 infections in Assam on Wednesday.

The victims have been identified as 81-year-old Ramesh Chandra Medhi from Kamrup Metro; 58-year-old Ram Kumar Mahato and 60-year-old Tarini Charan Kalita from Dibrugarh; 56-year-old Badal Debnath from Tinsukia, 56-year-old Kanu Paul from Cachar and 35-year-old Lalbhanu Khatoon from Darrang.
