Assam COVID19 update

Assam has registered 76 new COVID19 positive cases, taking the state’s overall tally to 2,473.

Confirming the news, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet at 11.35 pm on Saturday informed that the newly-infected patients are from 8 districts in the state.

The health minister said Dhubri district has reported 23 COVID19 positive cases, Darrang has reported 22 cases, Kamrup Metro has reported 12 cases and Dibrugarh district has reported 7 cases.

Sarma also informed that 5 COVID19 positive have been detected in Barpeta district, 3 have tested positive in Dhemaji district and 2 each cases have been reported from Sonitpur and Bongaigaon districts.

With the new cases, the number of active COVID19 cases in Assam stands at 1,878.

Earlier, a total of 588 COVID19 patients have been discharged from various hospitals across Assam after their recovery.

On Saturday, a total of 79 COVID19 patients were discharged after they tested negative for the virus twice.

The deadly disease so far has claimed the lives of 4 patients which 3 cases have migrated from the state.

On Saturday, Assam has registered a total of 230 COVID19 positive cases.

The total number of COVID19 positive cases in India, according to data compiled by John Hopkins University, stands at 243,733 and became the fifth worst-hit nation surpassing Spain.

Earlier on the day, the country surpassed Italy after registering a record single-day spike of 9,887 cases which pushed the nationwide tally to 2,36,657.

The death toll in India has risen to 6,642 so far, according to the Union Health Ministry.
