Assam has registered 2,218 new COVID19 positive cases on Saturday, taking the state’s overall tally to 57,714.

Confirming the news, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet on Saturday night said the new cases have been detected, out of 54,845 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.

“We have managed to maintain low positivity rate (4.04%),” health minister Sarma said.

The health minister informed that of the new cases, Kamrup Metro has registered 299 new cases, Cachar has registered 165 cases,, Nagaon has reported 150 cases and Dibrugarh has 142 new COVID19 positive cases.

Meanwhile, in another tweet, health minister Sarma said 1,782 patients, who were earlier infected by COVID19, have been discharged from various hospitals across Assam after they tested negative for the virus.

“Discharge Alert. 1782  patients have been discharged today. A good number indeed My best wishes with all recovered patients & their families,” health minister Sarma said.

With the release of 1,782 patients, the total number of patients, who have been discharged from the hospitals in Assam, stands at 40,591.

Assam currently has 16,980 active cases.

With the demise of 8 more positive patients due to COVID19 infections in Assam, the death toll in the state increased to 140 on Saturday.

Health minister Sarma in a tweet said the COVID19 victims are from Nalbari, Tinsukia, Morigaon, Kokrajhar, Nagaon, and Dibrugarh.

The victims have been identified as Mahan Talukdar (45) and Azizur Rahman (52) from Nalbari; Narayan C Deka (54) and Dulu Paul (50) from Tinsukia; Turab Ali (48) from Morigaon; Sufala Gogoi (46) from Kokrajhar; Khanindra Nath (55) from Nagaon and Prakash Jain (60) from Dibrugarh district.
