Assam COVID19 update: 2,116 new cases detected; more 2,054 patients discharged

Assam has registered 2,116 new positive cases on Wednesday, taking the state’s overall tally to 84,317 while 2,054 other patients were discharged from various hospitals on the day.

Confirming the detection of the new positive cases, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, the new cases have been detected out of 40,389 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.

“Alert ~ 2116 #COVID cases detected today out of 40389 tests done in last 24 hours,” the health minister said.

Assam’s positivity rate stands at 5.23%, Sarma said.

Of the positive cases detected on Wednesday, Kamrup Metro has reported 311 cases, Cachar has reported 190, 174 cases have been detected in Dibrugarh and Jorhat has reported 125 new positive cases.

On Wednesday, a total of 2,054 patients were discharged from various hospitals or Covid Care Centres across Assam after their recovery.

With the release of these patients, the total number of discharged patients in Assam reached 60,348.

Assam currently has 23,753 active COVID19 cases.

Ten more positive patients succumbed to COVID19 infections in Assam on Wednesday, taking the state’s death toll to 213.

The COVID19 victims are from Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Nagaon, Kamrup Metro, Karimganj, Cachar and Hailakandi districts.

The victims have been identified as 42-year-old Subhash Ghosh from Dibrugarh; 57-year-old Md Firoz Hussain from Golaghat; 73-year-old Fazaluddin Ahmed from Nagaon; 40-year-old Munwara Begum & 88-year-old Sigheswar Rai from Kamrup Metro.

The other victims include 50-yar-old Kalyanbrata Choudhury from Karimganj; 84-year-old Bimolendu Chakraborty from Cachar; 64-year-old Bimalnandu Ray from Hailakandi; 78-year-old Sitangshu Chanda from Cachar and 51-year-old Ranjana Bhattacharjee from Karimganj district.
