For the first time in Upper Assam’s Sivasagar Civil Hospital, a COVID19 positive woman delivered a healthy baby.
The baby was delivered in a separate Covid labour room and operation theatre set up in the Sivasagar Civil Hospital.

On Friday noon, a pregnant woman, identified as Kajol Panging from Haluwating in Sivasagar district’s Amguri area, was admitted to the Sivasagar Civil Hospital.
Unfortunately, during the Rapid Antigen Test, the woman tested positive for COVID19.
Without wasting time, the hospital authority admitted the pregnant woman to the Covid care unit.

But as the pregnant woman felt labour pain, she was admitted to the Covid labour room set up in the hospital.
The doctor, Covid staff and other staff members of the labour room on duty with the help of gynecologist Dr Prashanta Pratim Sarma and senior nurse Sonmoni Tamuli, Kajol Panging delivered a healthy male baby at 2.23 am on Saturday.
The baby weighed 2.7 kg.
Wearing PPE kit, senior nurse Sonmoni Tamuli took care of the newborn and the mother till the morning.
Both the mother and the newborn are now healthy and fit.
After keeping both the baby and the mother under observation for 10 hours, they have been shifted to the Covid Care Centre.
On the fifth day, the baby will have to undergo Rapid Antigen Test on the fifth day, hospital sources said.
