With massive spike in COVID-19 cases in Assam’s capital city Guwahati, the Kamrup-Metro District Administration has ordered closure of all Lower Primary schools in the city.

Kamrup-Metro Deputy Commissioner (DC) has issued a notification ordering closure of all lower primary schools (Class 1 to 5), both Government and private.

The Lower Primary schools in Guwahati have been ordered to close “until further notice” in this regard is issued.

“After reviewing the situation, further order for opening of Lower Primary schools will be issued in due course of time,” the order from the DC office read.

Moreover, NPS International School in Betkuchi area of Guwahati has been ‘sealed’ by the Kamrup-Metro district administration following detection of COVID-19 cases among teachers and students of the school.

“…to prevent further spread of COVID-19 virus amongst teaching staff and students, the school (NPS International School) authority is directed to close the schools for the next 7 (seven) days, w.e.f. today and the Circle Officer, Dispur Revenue Circle is directed to seal the area immediately,” the Kamrup-Metro DC order read.

Primary schools and classes in all Assam districts reporting over 100 active coronavirus cases will remain closed till further notice, Himanta Biswa Sarma, the state’s Health Minister, had said Saturday.

Notably, in a massive rise in number of daily COVID-19 cases in Assam, the State on Monday recorded a total of 1367 positive cases.

Of the new COVID-19 positive cases in Assam, 482 have been detected from in and around Guwahati city.
