The total number of COVID-19 cases rose to 128 in Lakhimpur district, the district health department informed this on Thursday in North Lakhimpur.

The numbers increased following the single-day spike of 10 cases on Wednesday.

The newly detected persons include one Indian Army personnel, who originally hails from Dhakuwakhona.

The others include a woman from North Lakhimpur, two restaurant staff in Kananadi near Ananda Tea Estate that supplied food to a quarantine centre at Subansiri College, Gogamukh and five migrant workers of Dhalpur returning from Bengaluru.

Another returnee hailing from Panigaon, who came from Hyderabad, also tested positive of the COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the district authorities of both Lakhimpur and Dhemaji have demarcated containment zones in Gogamukh following community spread of COVID-19.
