Guwahati: A couple was arrested in Silchar, Assam for allegedly pouring “hot oil” on their three-year-old child.
Police sources said that locals had approached the police stating that the couple had poured the hot oil on the child as she was constantly “crying”.
However, the allegations are being investigated by the police.

The parents allegedly fled the scene after the scene after they poured the oil on the child.
The locals and police rescued the child and took her to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital.
The family lived in rented accommodation at Factory Lane on Sonai Road in Silchar, Cachar.
The accused were identified as Rajdeep Das and Jaba Das.

After the child was admitted to the hospital, the police launched a probe and arrested the accused from a hideout nearby, reports stated.
The landlord of the house they lived in filed a complaint against the accused, a police source said.
The police said that both parents had been taken into custody for further questioning.
They also said that had there been more injuries, the child could have died.
