CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Tuesday said that the foundational pillars of the Constitution of India are facing threat under the BJP rule.

Speaking at the Centenary celebration of Assam’s veteran communist leader late Nandeswar Talukdar in Guwahati, Yechury said, “Every single foundational pillar of the Constitution has come under attack.”

He said that the BJP government has either destroyed or weakened the independent intuitions of the country.

“The independence of constitutional bodies like Parliament, judiciary, Election Commission and the CBI is being destroyed,” added the veteran CPI-M leader.

Yechury alleged that sedition law and UAPA have been used against those who are opposing BJP or the government policies.

“Anyone who are opposing the government, they have been charged with sedition or UAPA,” said the  CPI-M leader.

Criticizing the central government’s decision on booster dose of Covid vaccine, Yechury said the decision was taken in despite the fact that the country missed the year-end target of vaccinating all adults.

He also questioned the WHO decision on India’s indigenous covovax. “Why is WHO approved India made Covovax, exported but not approved/permitted for use in India?” he said.

Yechury called upon the gathering to save the country by ousting the BJP from power.

Speaking at the event, renowned scholar Dr. Hiren Gohain, launched a scathing attack on the BJP government.

Dr. Gohain said that all the products produced in the name of Made in India are now controlled by foreign capital.

According to Dr. Gohain, foreign capitalists, as well as Indian capitalist groups like Adani and Ambani, have usurped the right to food, health and other living rights of the people of the country.

He said, “In order to survive as a human being, we have to fight against this misrule and regime, there is no alternative to it.”

He alleged that the government is trying to establish a united Hindu state by wiping out Assam’s language and culture.

“We will not be mistaken in their rhetoric. I know we have the power to unite. Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Assamese, Bengalis must be united. Then we will be able to defeat them,” Dr. Gohain added.

He alleged that the ruling party is trying to distort history and show the Muslims as enemies of the nation.

The ruling party has been spreading anti-Muslim propaganda by attacking the masses, peasants and workers to protect civilization.
