Former Assam Education Minister and Senior Congress leader Sarat Barkataki on the auspicious occasion of Teachers’ Day on Wednesday came down heavily on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led coalition government in the State over ‘pathetic’ condition of teachers across the State.
Barkataki said, “Teachers under BJP’s rule are forced to take to the streets to agitate for their remuneration. Teachers in the State sit in hunger strike and go to commit mass suicide. It is shameful the present Government has not been showing respect and value to teachers.”
“5000 LP schools have been closed down during BJP rule in the State. Teachers in the State have been going through a tough time,” Barkataki said.
Barkataki being critical against Assam Education minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya, said, “The BJP led State Government as well as the Education Minister are liars. They have failed to solve the problems of the teachers.”
A total of 12 retired teachers of different colleges and schools across the State were felicitated on the occasion of Teachers’ Day at Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati.
APCC president Ripun Bora said, “It is unfortunate and shameful that teachers have to stage protest on Teachers’ Day. The present Government has failed to fulfill the demand and necessities of the teachers.”
“APCC has got brilliant personalities with the formation of teachers’ cell as teachers are the most resourceful individuals. The teachers are opinion makers. They show the right path to the society and for which formation of the cell is the call of the hour,” said Bora.
A Teachers’ Cell of Assam Congress has been formed with Naren Changmai as the president.
APCC president along with other Congress activists were present in the Teachers’ Day celebration.
