The Assam Congress and Raijor Dal are likely to contest the Assembly by-polls in the state as allies.
Speculations are running high that both the parties may forge an alliance for the Assembly by-polls “to defeat the BJP”.
Assam Congress chief Bhupen Borah and Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi held a meeting on Tuesday in Sivasagar to discuss possibilities of forging an alliance between the two parties.
Although no decision in regards to forming an alliance was reached during the meeting, both the leaders pledged to continue their discussions later.
By-elections have been necessitated in five Assam Assembly seats due to deaths and resignations of legislators.
By-polls to the five Assam Assembly seats are likely to be held by the end of the year.
In the 126-member Assam Assembly elections, the BJP bagged 60 seats, while its allies AGP won nine and UPPL six.
In the opposition camp, the Congress won 29, AIUDF 16, BPF four and CPI(M) got one seat. The Raijor Dal secured one seat, Sivasagar, as Akhil Gogoi won as an Independent.
