“…APCC president has show caused you to clarify your stand and intentions with 24 hours,” the notice further read.

Notably, Assam Congress MLA from Raha constituency Sashi Kanta Das, on Monday morning, met chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and state BJP president Bhabesh Kalita, triggering speculations that he might soon join the BJP.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma further fuelled the speculations saying that Sashi Kanta Das has “pledged to support BJP-led Assam government politically”.

“Moved by PM Modi’s vision of development, Congress MLA Sashi Kanta Das has pledged his commitment to support Assam government politically. This is exemplary and will strengthen governance,” Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma had said.

However, after the meeting, Sashi Kanta Das speaking to the media denied the claims.

He said that he had met Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over certain development related projects in his constituency.

He clarified that he was “still a member of the Congress” party.

“Meeting the CM of the state does not mean I will join the BJP. I met him because I want development in my constituency,” Assam Congress MLA Sashsi Kanta Das said.
