Guwahati: Senior Congress leader Pawan Khera is expected to appear before the Assam Police Crime Branch in Guwahati on Wednesday in connection with a defamation case filed by Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, the wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

According to sources, Khera is likely to reach Guwahati from New Delhi on a morning flight before appearing at the Crime Branch headquarters around 11 am for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.

The summons is linked to a defamation complaint lodged by Riniki Bhuyan Sharma over remarks allegedly made by the Congress leader. The Crime Branch is expected to record Khera’s statement during the course of the investigation.

The case has drawn political attention amid the continuing exchanges between the Congress and the BJP in Assam. However, officials have not disclosed further details regarding the scope of the questioning.

Khera is expected to cooperate with the investigation before returning to Delhi later in the day, subject to the progress of the inquiry.
