Assam: Committee formed to bring back COVID-19 lockdown stranded people

Assam Government on Thursday constituted a committee to bring back stranded people because of COVID-19 lockdown to State in phased manner.

The committee will formulate SoP for bringing back migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists, students and other persons stranded at different places.

Additional DGP of Law and order, G P Singh will head the committee.

The other members include Harmeet Singh, ADGP (Security); A S Manivannan, CEO, ASDMA; A P Tiwari, MD, ASTC; Dr Laxmanan S, MD NHM and Adil Hussain, commissioner, Transport.

G P Singh has been entrusted as the nodal officer for the entire exercise of bringing back people from other states.

Harmeet Singh is the alternate nodal officer.

This was decided in a meeting of the State Level Empowered Committee, COVID-19 on Thursday.

The committee also decided that text book shops shall be allowed to remain open from 10 am to 5 pm from Monday to Saturday.

The committee also decided that for intra-state movement of stranded people, the Transport department shall arrange buses from ASTC and the expenditure for the same shall be borne by NHM.
