Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has condemned the horrific gang-rape of a 14-year-old girl in the Dhing area of Nagaon district.

The incident occurred on Thursday night when the victim, riding a bicycle, was attacked and assaulted by three unidentified men.

“This is a heinous crime against humanity and has struck our collective conscience. We will not spare anyone involved and bring the perpetrators to justice,” Sarma said.

The victim is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital and her condition is reported to be stable.

Following the incident, the Assam DGP, Gyanendra Pratap Singh, canceled his scheduled meetings and rushed to the crime scene. The police have launched an investigation into the matter.

Local residents expressed outrage over the incident, shutting down shops and business establishments in Dhing as a mark of protest.

The All Assam Students Union (AASU) has condemned the government for the incident and demanded the arrest of the accused within 12 hours.
