“The delegation submitted a memorandum to the Assam CM seeking a state award in the name of noted sport personality, legendary sports journalist and first-ever government sports pensioner of the state late Pulin Chandra Das,” the committee said in a statement.

The delegation suggested the Assam chief minister that the award may be for sports journalism and sports literature.

The delegation in its memorandum also urged upon the chief minister for installation of a bust of late Das in the Nehru Stadium premises.

The chief minister while receiving the memorandum assured the delegation to look into the matter with proper discussion and analysis at the state government level.

In 2014, soon after the death of Pulin Chandra Das, the then Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi announced an award in his name but it did not materialise.

In 2019, Asam Sahitya Sabha, with the sole initiative by the then president Paramananda Rajbongshi, announced such award and the very first award was presented to senior sports journalist Subodh Malla Barua of the Assamese daily ‘Dainik Asom’.

The delegation urged the chief minister to resume that very award for and on behalf of the state government.

Besides the delegation members, Kalyan Kumar Das, Balendra Mohan Chakravortty, Nayan Prasad, Subodh Malla Barua, ChandanSarmah, former Asam Sahitya Sabha president and of Sipajhar MLA Paramanada Rajbongshi were also present at the meeting with the CM.
