Former Assam CM Tarun Gogoi honoured with Padma Bhushan

Three-time chief minister of Assam – Tarun Gogoi has been honoured with Padma Bhushan posthumously. 

Dolly Gogoi, wife of the former Assam chief minister, received the Padma Bhushan for her husband from President Ram Nath Kovind. 

The three-time former Assam CM was honoured with Padma Bhushan by President Ram Nath Kovind at a function in the Rashtrapati Bhawan on Tuesday.

Expressing delight at his father being honoured with Padma Bhushan, Assam Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said that the best way to remember his father would be to live by his principles.

“Fondly remembered the contribution of my father Late Shri Tarun Gogoi in the field of public service as he received the Padma Bhushan award 2021 posthumously. I remember the countless conversations we had which have shaped my principles and ideas for the people of Assam,” said Gaurav Gogoi.

Meanwhile, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also expressed happiness over Gogoi being honoured with Padma Bhushan. 

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said: “The conferring of Padma Bhushan posthumously to former Assam CM Late Sri Tarun Gogoi by Adarniya Rashtrapati Ji is a fine tribute to the great icon of Indian politics and a mass leader. I join the family in this moment of joy! Congratulations.”

A veteran political leader, Gogoi was the longest-serving chief minister of Assam 

He was credited with bringing peace to a state steeped in militant insurgency.
