Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday talked to his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad K Sangma over telephone and discussed various issues regarding transportation of essential commodities to Barak Valley through Meghalaya.
Assam chief minister requested Sangma to ensure hassle-free transportation of the vehicles carrying essential commodities from Guwahati to the Barak Valley districts.
Keeping in view of the surge in COVID19 positive cases in Assam, the Meghalaya government recently announced total curfew in the Byrnihat to Khanapara stretch under Ri-Bhoi district bordering Guwahati.
Sonowal said since vehicles carrying essential commodities for Barak Valley pass through the territory of Meghalaya, cooperation from the authorities of Meghalaya enables the state government to reach out to the people of Barak Valley faster and more efficiently.
“The Meghalaya chief minister assured of taking adequate steps for ensuring smooth movement of essential goods and medicinal items from Guwahati to Barak Valley and other North-eastern states via Meghalaya,” the CMO, Assam said.
