Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday laid the foundation stones of Chabua Sports Association Stadium and an indoor stadium at Chabua in Dibrugarh.
The Chabua Sports Association Stadium will be built under the signature project of 2018-19 at a cost of Rs 9.88 crore.

The Chabua indoor stadium is estimated to be built at a cost of Rs 2.33 crore from the SOPD fund.
Sonowal said the present state government has been working for the all-round development of the state following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s motto of Sabka sath, Sabka vikash, Sabka Viswas since 2016.
He alleged that the Congress party, which was in power for the majority portion of the post-Independence period, “weakened the society by resorting to divisive politics”.

He claimed that the present government in the state has strived to strengthen the bond of unity among all sections of the society while working resolutely towards fulfilling the promises with which it came to power.
The CM asserted that the youths of the state have been able to excel in various sectors and agriculture sector has seen tremendous growth as a result of the sincere and unprecedented efforts taken up by the present state government.
He also highlighted the historic step of providing land pattas to indigenous landless people by the state government as a strong measure to sustain the indigenous people’s control over the state and safeguard their interests.
Sonowal also underlined the state government’s steps such as the construction of six new bridges over the Brahmaputra, setting up of national institutes like IARI at Gogamukh and AIIMS at Changsari and establishing NID at Jorhat since Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed power.
The chief minister expressed confidence that the setting up of Chabua Sports Association Stadium and Chabua indoor stadium would greatly contribute to the rapid development of sports in the state and the entire region and establish Assam as the sports capital of the country.
Union minister of state for food processing Rameswar Teli, MLAs Chakradhar Gogoi, Teros Gowala, Binod Hazarika, member secretary of SLAC for youth welfare Lakhya Konwar and the Vice-Chancellor of Aniruddhadeb Sports University J.P. Verma were present on the occasion.
