Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday inaugurated various development projects worth Rs. 450 crore at Chowkidinghee playground in Dibrugarh.

“Our government is fully committed to fulfil the basic rights of food and shelter for the underprivileged sections of the society and that is why, we have been earnestly working towards swift implementation of all the schemes announced in the state budget. People’s support has helped us tremendously in fulfilling our commitments,” said Assam Chief Minister Sonowal.

Sonowal said this while taking part in a programme of distributing laptops to meritorious students of Dibrugarh under Anundoram Borooah Award and inauguration of various development projects for Dibrugarh at Chowkidinghee playground in Dibrugarh.

CM Sonowal on Friday inaugurated the works for Rs 183.46 crore drinking water facility in Dibrugarh under Amrut Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation, setting up of LED high mast street lights in 100 municipality and town committee areas for Rs 75.96 crore, construction of multipurpose utility complex at Dibrugarh police reserve for Rs 38 crore, upgradation of Tinthengia PHC to FRU and Senchowa Sub-centre to PHC for 5.37 crore.

Earlier, the Assam CM also inaugurated Affordable Nutrition and Nourishment Assistance (ANNA) Yojana at Dibrugarh district at Mancotta.

Saying that some vested interested groups are trying to create doubts in the minds of the people about the government’s sincerity, Sonowal highlighted steps like providing land pattas to landless indigenous people as an indication of the government’s commitment to protect the rights of sons of the soil.

He also referred to the delay in construction of three bridges over Brahmaputra in Dhola-Sadiya, Bogibeel and Saraighat by the previous government and scores of corruption cases like registration of 9 lakh ghost children by Social Welfare Department, enrolment of bogus job card and ration card beneficiaries etc. as proofs of complete lack of transparency in governance.

Urging various organisations of state to set examples of hard work and dedication, the chief minister reiterated that only hard work, and not agitations, can take the state on the path of development.

He underlined the state government’s endeavour to eradicate corruption from Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) which has resulted in meritorious poor candidates getting jobs through a clean process and rapid development of the Northeast due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to the region.
