Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal stresses on use of advanced farming methods

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has stated that farmers should shun traditional methods of faming in favour of modern methods.

Sonowal was in Jorhat on Friday to attend a review meeting held at the Assam Agriculture University.

“It is not possible to make any progress in agriculture by using traditional methods. Once can achieve development only by adopting modern and technologically advanced methods of farming,” Sonowal said.

Sonowal also asked the scientists of the university to develop the agriculture sector of the state by adopting modern technology and sensitizing the farmers on it.

He asked them to take measures to implement modern infrastructure and strengthen the market economy of the state.

The chief minister stressed on implementation of the state’s agricultural policies and asked the university to formulate them so that the state could utilise the Rs 1 lakh crore funds allotted under the Atma Nirbharsheel Bharat scheme.

Production of agriculture products has increased 18 per cent in the state, Sonowal said.
