In a move to ensure a dedicated electricity network and building a robust power distribution system, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday inaugurated a 33/11 KV sub-station at Bongaon in Majuli district.
The sub-station, constructed under Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY), will benefit seven thousand consumers in the district.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sonowal termed the inauguration as the new addition to the sequel of development initiatives undertaken in Majuli.
He said that as Majuli is already spirituality and culturally illuminated, this 33/11 KV sub-station will dispel all darkness cast by inadequate electricity in the district.
Sonowal also said that the present state government has drawn a broad road map for making Majuli a top-ranking district in the State by exploiting its rich natural resources.
He also said that the State government will also set up a solar power plant in Majuli to empower the district to contribute to making an Atmanirbhar Assam.
Giving a snapshot of all development works being undertaken in Majuli, the Chief Minister called upon the people of the district to extend all cooperation in the government initiatives.
Along with the sub-station which has been built at a cost of Rs. 6.77 crore, Sonowal said that in the power sector Government would take several other steps for Majuli.
