Social welfare minister Ajanta Neog on Thursday visited Mother Old Age Home.

Taking strong note of the unexpected turn of events at Mother Old Age Home located at Hatigaon area in Guwahati, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday ordered a probe into the latest developments.

Chief Minister Sarma directed the deputy commissioner of Kamrup Metro to inquire into the unseemly circumstances and submit a report within 72 hours.

The Chief Minister also asked the Social Welfare Minister Ajanta Neog to personally monitor the entire development and take appropriate steps accordingly.

Meanwhile, social welfare minister Ajanta Neog on Thursday visited Mother Old Age Home.

The old age home is run by Monalisha Welfare Society, a city-based NGO.

The difference of opinion between two office-bearers of the NGO—Monika Sarma and Utpal Harshabardhan– over the functioning of the old age home–has triggered a massive row during the one week.

“I came here and met the elderly. The people of Assam are anxious and the CM is also worried. He had asked me to visit Mother Old Age Home and try to understand the problems. There are some issues and I believe these can be resolved. It is our responsibility to look after these elderly people staying at the old age home,” Neog told reporters.
