Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has ordered a probe into the incident of pipeline burst at Kopili power project at Umrangsu in Dima Hasao district.

The chief minister has asked South Assam Division DIG PK Dutta to conduct an in inquiry into the incident.

Four officials of North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd (NEEPCO) went missing after a water supply line of the Kopili hydro electric project burst on Monday morning.

The entire project site including the power house was flooded following the burst.

Chief minister Sonowal also asked hill areas development, mines and minerals minister Sum Ronghang to visit the incident site with a high-powered team to take stock of the situation.

The high-powered team will also have MP Haren Sing Bay, MLA BB Hagjer, Nomal Momin, chief executive member (CEM) of Dima Haso Autonomous Council (DHAC) Debolal Gorlosa.

Chief minister Sonowal on Friday held a meeting with the senior officers of the NEEPCO and took a firsthand information of the incident.

He also asked them to take technology driven remedial steps to avert the recurrence of such incidents in the future.

Hills areas development minister Sum Ronghang, chief minister’s media adviser Hrishikesh Goswami, legal adviser Santanu Bharali, additional chief secretary, home and political department, Kumar Sanjay Krishna, chairman APDCL Vinod Kumar Pipersenia, chief minister’s principal secretary Sanjay Lohiya and the officers of NEEPCO were present at the meeting.
