Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi on Wednesday took stock of the prevailing situation of the State.

State chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal met the Governor in Raj Bhavan and apprised him of COVID-19 situation in the State along with Baghjan gas well blow out incident and the prevailing flood situation in the State.

In the approximately 30 minute meeting, as the Governor wanted to know the likely cause of the current spike in coronavirus positive cases in the State, especially in Guwahati city, Sonowal drew the attention of the Governor to different measures particularly locality based lockdown clamped in Guwahati.

He also said the government is maintaining strict vigilance over the situation and will take appropriate steps seeing the development over the next one week.

The chief minister also apprised the Governor of the Baghjan incident and said sustained efforts are being continued on 24×7 basis to put a cap on the blow out areas.

On being asked about the reported tremor around the areas of fire incident, Sonowal informed the Governor that a study has been ordered as North East Institute of Science and Technology, Jorhat is conducting an in depth study with the with help of IIT-Guwahati to find out the probable cause for the tremor.

On the prevailing flood situation in the State, Sonowal informed the Governor that the district administrations in the affected districts have been directed to reach out to the marooned people and carry out relief and rescue works.

The Governor said in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, the government should take adequate precautions to help the affected people in line with the coronavirus safety protocols so that the viral infections can not spread in the garb of keeping the affected people in the relief camps.
