The Assam CM’s visit to the National Capital comes in the backdrop oof the signing of the joint statement between the ministers of Assam and Mizoram over the inter-state border issue. 

CM Sarma is also likely to meet union home minister Amit Shah on Monday.

The meeting between Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and union home minister Amit Shah is expected to discuss in length the inter-state border dispute between Assam and Mizoram. 

The Assam and Mizoram governments issued a joint statement, agreeing to maintain peace in the inter-state border areas. 

The two states agreed to not send their respective forest and police forces for patrolling, domination, enforcement or for fresh deployment to any disputed areas. 

At least six policemen and a civilian were killed in a violent clash between the police forces of the two states at Lailapur in Assam’s Cachar district on July 26.
