North Lakhimpur: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma dedicated the new Lovlina Borgohain Sports Arena in North Lakhimpur to the nation on Wednesday.
Sarma inaugurated the newly constructed sports complex in the presence of Olympian Lovlina Borgohain and other dignitaries in Chanmari, near Lilabari Airport.
Constructed at a cost of Rs 140 crore, the stadium is built using world-class technology and is equipped with modern infrastructure and advanced sports facilities. The project is expected to give a major boost to sports development in the region.
Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain attended the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest. The Chief Minister also virtually inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of several key projects from the Lovlina Borgohain Sports Complex.
These included the Lakhimpur branch of the Assam Government Press, road safety enhancement works under ASRIP on state highways and major roads, installation of 757 smart LED streetlights across North Lakhimpur town, and infrastructure development works of North Lakhimpur University.
They also included a flood protection project on the Somdiri River with construction of a protection wall and guide bund, and the upgradation of Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital.
