Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the Dinesh Goswami Flyover at Bharalumukh on Wednesday, a move aimed at improving traffic flow in one of Guwahatiโs heavily used routes.
The flyover, spanning 1.2 kilometres and costing around Rs 99 crore, links Machkhowa to Bharalumukh, with an additional connection to the Santipur Sluice Gate.
Authorities say it is expected to ease traffic and make daily travel in the area more convenient.
Sarma explained that the section from Santipur features two lanes, while the road descending towards Bharalumukh has a single lane. The return route towards Santipur is designed as a one-and-a-half-lane elevated corridor.
Midway along the flyover, commuters travelling from Santipur to Bharalumukh, Kamakhya, or Sukleshwar will have access to a two-lane section.
The Chief Minister noted that the project was completed in just 15 months, after consultations with Indian Railways, although the original timeline was set at 24 months.
He described the flyover as an important step for Guwahatiโs infrastructure and shared updates on other projects.
According to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chandmari Flyover is scheduled to open on March 10, while the Cycle Factory Flyover is expected to be ready before Bohag Bihu. He added that despite the Model Code of Conduct, both structures will be inaugurated without formal ceremonies so that residents can use them during the festival.
Once these flyovers are in use, residents of Guwahati can expect smoother and quicker travel across the city.
