Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday announced an amount of Rs 5 crore for developing the Gurdwara at Dhubri as a spiritual tourism spot.
The 346th Guru Tegh Bahadur Martyrdom Day, also known as Shaheedi Diwas, was observed at the historical Dhubri Gurudwara with a three-day-long programme started on Friday.

People across the country paid their homage to the ninth of 10 Sikh Gurus, who were supporters of religious freedom, on this day.
The day marks the death anniversary of the ninth Sikh Guru.
On Saturday, the second day of the celebration, Assam chief minister Himanta Bishwa Sharma visited the Dhubri Gurudwara and paid tribute to Guru Tegh Badahur.

On this auspicious occasion, the Sikh pilgrims across the country thronged the Dhubri Gurdwara and participated in a nagar kirtan (religious procession) that ‘transformed’ the historical town into a small melting religious city.
On the second day of the occasion of the 346 Shahid Divas (Martyrdom Day) of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur, the ninth guru of the Sikhs, around ten thousand devotees from the region and across the country participated in the said nagar kirtan.
The ‘nagar kirtan’ began from the Dhubri Gurdwara Sahib at around 1 pm and roamed across the main roads of Dhubri town and finally culminated at the Gurudwara.
During the religious procession, the people of Dhubri town converged on the roadside and extended support and service towards the devotees.

As part of the 3-day celebrations that began on Friday, Sikh Pratinidhi Board (Eastern Zone), Lions Club and other social organizations offered free services like food and water among the devotees.
“Apart from the religious activities, a free health camp and other social welfare activities like distribution of fruits among people has also been organized in and around the Gurdwara Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahibji, popularly known as Dhubri Gurudwara, which was established by the ninth guru,” said Sardar Kulwant Singh, general secretary of the Sikh Pratinidhi Board, Eastern Zone.
SPBEZ has made elaborate arrangements in order to accommodate the devotees at the gurdwara premises while guru ka langar (Community Feast) was served in its backyard round the clock, as informed by the Gurdwara Management Committee.
