GUWAHATI: A chargesheet was filed against a suspended Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer in a disproportionate assets case by the CM’s vigilance cell in a special court on Friday (March 15).
Sukanya Bora, who has been in judicial custody since January, was the subject of a 1133-page chargesheet filed against her.
In the statement, the SP of the Assam chief minister’s special vigilance cell announced the initiation of a regular inquiry.
This action was prompted by media reports alleging widespread corruption and misappropriation under the MPLAD funds of Rajya Sabha MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan for the years 2021-22 and 2022-23.
During that time period, Bora served as the additional deputy commissioner (ADC) and was responsible for overseeing the role of District Development Commissioner (DDC) for Kamrup Metropolitan district in Assam.
An FIR, under relevant acts and sections, was lodged at the Vigilance Police Station, listing Bora as the main accused along with 14 others.
In the course of investigating the initial case, the probing officer discovered that Bora possessed assets exceeding her known sources of income.
A distinct case was registered at the same police station against the suspended ACS officer.
This case highlighted the accumulation of disproportionate assets totaling Rs 8,14,18,533.54, equivalent to 786.26 percent of her documented income sources over her seven-year tenure as a public servant.
Upon the conclusion of the investigation, the chargesheet was submitted, revealing that Bora engaged in “criminal misconduct for her pecuniary benefit, through corrupt and illegal means, and by exerting personal influence to dishonestly fulfill her public duty”.
Bora was apprehended on January 18th.
