Guwahati: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader in Sonari of Charaideo, Assam, allegedly died by suicide on Friday.

According to reports, the deceased was identified as Debajit Hazarika.

He allegedly took the extreme step following some news reports which were deemed to be false and misleading by his family.

Hazarika left a suicide note accusing a journalist of being behind him in choosing the step to end his life.

In the note, he alleged that the journalist had been mentally harassing him.

He was accused of being involved in financial anomalies.

His wife, Mousumi Hazarika told the media that her husband had never been involved in any sort of scam as claimed by some people.

She claimed that Debajit Hazarika was a victim of some conspiracy.

She also said that the man had been involved in full-time social service and there was no way he would be involved in any scam.

While the primary reports suggest that Debajit Hazarika died by suicide, his wife has suspected the incident is a possible murder and demanded an investigation.

His dead body was found near a Panchayat Office in Sonari.

Sources said that the suicide note had the names of four persons.
